The fourth song ELEMENT is where Kendrick asserts himself as the most dominant rapper and he dares rappers to call him out so he can put them on life support. The next song is called DNA( Dead Ni**a association) in which the rapper glorifies his heritage and what his own personal deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) is made up of and what it does not contain. The intro contains a sample from Fox news in which a report criticised the rappers “Alright” performance at the 2015 Bet Awards. The first song, which is an Intro is called “BLOOD”, where Kendrick gets shot by a blind lady, the blind lady represents what are the consequences of Damnation. Yeah, going back to back” Basically Kendrick is saying he needs no substance to out rap anybody whereas he may be saying that Drake needs alcohol to out-rap Meek Mill. There has also been speculation that the rapper is sending shots Big Sean’s way using ad-libs such as “lil” and especially since Big Sean states that he was leaving his Humble attitude on “No favours” which featured Eminem, more speculation is that he was sending out Subliminals at Drake with the following lyrics,”Watch my soul speak, you let the meds talk, aye, If I kill a ni**a, it won’t be the alcohol, aye, I’m the realest ni**a after all, bi**h, be humble” if you can remember on 2015’s Back to Back, Drake states “I got the drink in me going back to back The lead single for DAMN is “Humble” in which Kendrick Lamar tells other rappers to be humbled by his lyrical superiority. In an era where Bars are undervalued and “mumble rap”( which I have no problem with) seems to have more shown more attention, Kendrick seems to have built a bridge to go over such theories. The album is filled with eccentric sounds which are different from most of his albums and mixtapes. With DAMN, Kendrick shows what it is to traditionally be a rapper has he shows the listeners that he is an amazing lyrical gymnast, with amazing flow, delivery and of course giving punchline after punchline after punchline.
But with this album, Kendrick delves deeper into his mind and with this album he has many different sides to him compared to his last project “To pimp a butterfly” where he raps about social injustices taking places in America, loving yourself, empowering black people but clearly with DAMN, the fight for all this has him tired and frustrated as he raps on a song called “Element”, “Last LP I tried to lift black artists but it’s a difference between black artists and wack artists. This is Kendrick’s first album since he released ” To pimp a butterfly” back in 2015 but between both these projects, K.dot released and extended playlist(EP) called “Untitled-Unmastered” which featured 8 tracks.

DAMN was released on the 14th of April 2017, but fans initially expected the album to drop on the 7th of April based on a song called “The Heart Part 4” in which he raps the following line, “Y’all got till April 7th to get ya’ll sh*t” together ” ( if you haven’t heard the 4 part series of the heart I recommend that you do).
